Honoring one of our own
CRI’s Favorite Veteran: Mr. Herb Bodtke
On November 11th, Veterans Day, our nation will honor the men and
women who have served and defended the United States of America.
I have had the privilege to work alongside a distinguished veteran, Herb Bodtke, CRI’s recently retired Executive Vice President. Herb is a Vietnam Era Navy veteran, he served on the USS Pargo, a Sturgeon-class nuclear submarine. Herb and I recently attended the commissioning ceremony of a new nuclear submarine in New London, CT at the US Navy Submarine Base. Herb shared with me some of his best Navy stories, such as when he was new to the sub in the 60’s, the Captain pulled him aside and lead him to one of the most important systems on the boat, the Coca Cola machine. The Captain instructed Herb to always make sure it works and it is always full. A second and beautifully sentimental story, was that his wife wrote him a letter every day he was in the service and she sprayed every letter with her perfume, which Herb apparently liked quite a bit.

Every employee at CRI would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to Herb and to all veterans. Herb has always been a fine role model and continues to be a great friend to us all.

Respectfully,

Gil Engels
